Cookie Policy

Citet uses only the cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the editor. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking across third-party sites.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of data a website stores in your browser. The browser sends it back on every subsequent request, which lets the site recognise you across page loads.

Cookies we set

All cookies set by Citet are first-party and strictly necessary for the editor to work. We do not need consent for these under the ePrivacy directive — but you should still know what is stored.

Authentication

  • better-auth.session_token — identifies your signed-in session. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. Lifetime: until you sign out, or up to 30 days of inactivity.
  • better-auth.csrf_token — protects against cross-site request forgery on state-changing requests. HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite=Lax. Lifetime: per session.

Preferences

  • citet:theme — remembers your light/dark theme choice. Lifetime: 1 year.

Local storage

In addition to cookies, the editor uses localStorage and IndexedDB to keep small amounts of data on your device:

  • IndexedDB (Yjs document cache) — buffers offline edits so they sync when you reconnect. The cache is per-project and you can clear it from your browser's site settings.
  • localStorage — stores small UI state such as panel sizes and the homepage sandbox content.

None of this data is transmitted to third parties. It exists only to make the editor usable across reloads and brief network drops.

What we do not use

  • No analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Plausible, Matomo, etc.).
  • No advertising or remarketing cookies.
  • No social-network embed cookies.
  • No fingerprinting.

If you disable cookies in your browser, the editor will not work — there is no way to keep you signed in without at least the session cookie.

Managing cookies

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers also let you allow first-party cookies while blocking third-party ones; that combination works for Citet because we do not set third-party cookies.

Changes

If we ever add a new cookie that is not strictly necessary (for example, an opt-in analytics cookie for self-hosters), we will update this page and request consent before setting it.
