What is Citet?

Citet is a self-hostable collaborative LaTeX editor built around three things: a real-time editor in the browser, a sandboxed compile pipeline, and a shared client library so VSCode and Neovim can join the same session.

The default installation is a Docker Compose stack — PostgreSQL, MinIO, a Hocuspocus WebSocket server for collaboration, a LaTeX worker (Tectonic by default), and the web app itself. Authentication is handled by Better Auth and works standalone or in front of an existing identity provider.

On top of the core editor, Citet has an optional AI assistant that can review and edit your project using a provider you connect, and a typed plugin platform that those features are built on.

The hosted instance at citet.eu runs the same stack. Everything in these docs applies to both.

Citet sits in the Backmatter product family alongside Nocite for pre-citation source collection, Shipout for rendering, and Loadclass for documentclass templates.
