Terms of Service

1. Service description

Citet ("the Service") is a collaborative LaTeX editor operated by the entity listed in the imprint. The Service is provided as a hosted offering and is also available as open-source software for self-hosting under a separate license.

2. Account

You need an account to use most of the Service. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity that takes place under your account. Notify us if you believe your account has been compromised.

You may close your account at any time from the settings page. Closing the account schedules associated data for deletion as described in the Privacy Policy.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

• Violate applicable law or anyone's rights.
• Upload, distribute, or compile content you do not have the right to use, or that is unlawful, harassing, or harmful.
• Attempt to circumvent quotas, access controls, or security measures, or to access other users' projects without authorization.
• Use the compile pipeline for purposes other than typesetting documents (for example, cryptocurrency mining or denial-of-service attacks).
• Probe, scan, or load-test the Service without prior written permission. Security research is welcome — please contact us first.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. We try to give notice and an opportunity to correct the issue, but we may act immediately when necessary to protect the Service or other users.

4. Your content

You retain all rights to the content you create or upload. You grant us the limited license needed to operate the Service: storing, transmitting, displaying back to you and your collaborators, and processing through the compile pipeline.

You are responsible for backing up content you cannot afford to lose. We make reasonable efforts to keep data safe, but we do not guarantee against data loss. Thebackups feature is one way to keep an off-site copy.

5. Free and paid plans

The hosted Service may offer free and paid plans. Quotas, limits, and pricing are described on the pricing page or in the project settings. We may change pricing for future billing periods with reasonable notice.

6. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, third-party outages, and incidents can affect availability. We do not commit to a service level on free plans.

7. Open-source software

Citet's source code is published under an open-source license. The license governs your use of the source code (including self-hosting); these Terms govern your use of the hosted Service. Both can apply at the same time but cover different things.

8. Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost use, even if we have been advised of the possibility. Our aggregate liability for direct damages is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or, if you are on a free plan, to one hundred euros.

Mandatory consumer protections (for example under EU consumer law) are not affected by this clause.

10. Termination

You can stop using the Service and close your account at any time. We may terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that have been inactive for extended periods. Provisions that by their nature survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimer, limitation of liability, governing law) continue to apply.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms when the Service changes or when the legal context changes. We will give reasonable notice before material changes take effect; continuing to use the Service after that constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's principal place of business. Mandatory consumer law in your country of residence remains unaffected. Disputes arising out of these Terms shall be settled by the competent courts at the operator's seat, unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
